Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-Assisted Technologies

The Herald of ONMU recognizes the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in scientific research and manuscript preparation. The use of such technologies is permitted provided that the principles of academic integrity, transparency, and responsibility are strictly observed.

AI tools cannot be considered authors of scientific works, as they cannot assume responsibility for the content and validity of the research.

Use of AI by Authors

Authors may use AI tools for:

  • language editing and stylistic improvement;
  • data processing and analysis;
  • idea generation and auxiliary support.

At the same time, authors are required to:

  • take full responsibility for the content of the manuscript;
  • verify the accuracy of all data and statements;
  • clearly disclose the use of AI, where applicable;
  • avoid using AI to generate false or misleading results.

Limitations on the Use of AI

The following practices are not permitted:

  • using AI to generate the full text of a manuscript without substantial human contribution;
  • listing AI as a co-author;
  • fabricating or manipulating data using AI tools;
  • failing to disclose the use of AI where it has influenced the content.

Use of AI by Reviewers and Editors

Reviewers and editors must not:

  • upload manuscripts or any part of them to third-party AI tools without authorization;
  • use AI tools that may compromise the confidentiality of submitted materials.

Peer review must remain independent and conducted by qualified experts.

Disclosure

If AI tools are used, authors must:

  • disclose this in the manuscript (e.g., in the Acknowledgements or Methods section);
  • specify the nature and extent of AI use.

Responsibility

Authors bear full responsibility for the content of the publication, including any material generated or assisted by AI technologies.
