Artificial intelligence in the construction industry

Abstract

This paper presents a review-oriented and applied analysis of contemporary approaches to the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the construction industry, with a particular focus on the application of BIM environments during the design, construction, and operation stages of buildings and structures. The main directions of AI implementation are considered, including generative visualization, automation of BIM modeling and project documentation, intelligent analysis of parametric models, and the development of digital twins. Special attention is given to the practical use of AI-based tools within the Autodesk Revit software environment from the perspective of a structural engineer. Based on the analysis of modern software solutions, their functional capabilities, advantages, and limitations are identified, as well as the boundaries of their reasonable application in professional engineering practice. It is shown that at the current stage, artificial intelligence serves primarily as an effective tool for supporting design processes and automating routine operations, while not replacing engineering calculations or professional decision-making by specialists. The results obtained may be useful for design organizations and BIM professionals when implementing AI tools in construction design workflows.
